Opotiki Harbour Development
Opotiki’s harbour was once a vital part of its transport infrastructure. Today its use is limited to smaller vessels and even they can only cross the bar at the Waioeka River mouth under favourable tide and weather conditions.
The Opotiki Harbour development project aims to restore access for larger vessels under most weather and tide conditions and allow the town to become the service and processing base for a future marine farming industry.
This site details the project background, benefits and the various technical and environmental factors it involves.
